Wall holder for a remote control, made to measure

Measure your remote and one of the screws you will hang it on, and we will cut a pocket that the remote drops into, open at the top, with an ear on each side. Each ear has a slot open at the top: put the two screws in the wall first, leave their heads standing out a little, and lower the holder onto them. It prints standing up with no supports.

What you need to hand

  • A calliper or a ruler for the width and thickness of your remote, and its length end to end.
  • One of the screws you will hang it on, and a calliper for the diameter of its shank; the heads need to be wider than the slots.
  • Your nozzle size and the filament you will print it in.
Your remote

Measure the remote at its widest and at its thickest — usually where the batteries go — and from end to end.

mm
Across the face of the remote, at its widest, with a calliper or a ruler.
mm
From the buttons to the back, at the thickest point — usually where the batteries go.
mm
End to end. We use it to leave enough of the remote standing above the pocket to take hold of.
The holder

How deep the pocket is, how tall its front is, and the screws you will hang it on.

mm
How far the remote goes down into the pocket, from the top edge of the sides to the floor of the pocket.
mm
How tall the front of the pocket is. Lower than the sides leaves the buttons showing.
mm
The diameter of the shank of the screws you will hang it on, under the head. Measure one with a calliper.
The printer it will come off

Set these to the nozzle you will print with and the filament you will use; what is filled in is only our usual setting. The nozzle decides whether the walls come out the thickness we drew. The filament does not change the model: it only sets the weight estimate.

Sets the weight estimate. It does not change the model.
Finer adjustments
mm
How much wider and deeper than the remote we draw the pocket. Looser drops in more easily, but the remote moves about more.
