Screwdriver rack, made to measure for your set

Measure each screwdriver in the set you own: the widest part that has to go through a hole, the end of the handle that will sit on the rack, and the widest part of the handle. We cut a wall rack with a hole for each one, in the order you give, every hole sized from that driver's shaft and every gap sized from its handle, so by our sums neighbouring handles stay apart even with each driver pushed to one side of its hole. It hangs on two screws and prints flat, with no supports.

What you need to hand

  • A caliper, and the screwdrivers you want on the rack.
  • For each one: the shaft or tip, the end of the handle, and the widest part of the handle.
  • How much wall you have, side to side.
  • The wall screws you will use, and their heads or washers — most need a wide washer.
  • Your nozzle size and the filament you will print it in.

Your set

Lay the drivers out in the order you want them on the wall, left to right, and measure each one with a caliper. We only read as many as you say you have.

Up to six on one rack. We only read that many drivers below, from the left; leave the rest as they are.
Driver 1 — the one on the left

Three sizes: what goes through the hole, what sits on the rack, and the widest part of the handle.

mm
Across the widest part that has to go through the hole: the round shaft, or the tip if it is wider, as slotted tips often are. On a flat or six-sided shaft, measure across the corners.
mm
Across the end of the handle where the shaft comes out — the part that will sit on the rack. If there is a collar on the shaft just under the handle, measure that instead.
mm
Across the widest part of the handle. This sets how far apart the holes are.

Your wall and your screws

How much wall there is, and the two screws the rack will hang on. Use fixings meant for your wall; we do not check them. The slots are cut wide so that holes drilled a little off still take the rack, so most screws need a wide washer under the head.

mm
The widest the rack can be where it will hang. If the set needs more, we look for a way to split it into shorter racks that each pass, and say so if there is none.
mm
The thread of the wall screw, across. The two slots in the back are sized from it.
mm
Across the screw head, or the washer if you use one. The head holds the rack against the wall, so it has to cover the edges of the slot, and the slots are cut wide so that two holes drilled a little off still take the rack: most screw heads need a wide washer.
The printer it will come off

These two are facts about your bench, and both have a right answer already filled in. The nozzle decides how small a hole stays open, which is why we ask.

The nozzle you will print with. It does not change the model — it decides whether the smallest hole stays open.
Sets the weight estimate and the stiffness in the checks. It does not change the model.
Finer adjustments
mm
How much wider than each shaft its hole is drawn. Printed holes come out a little smaller or larger than drawn; the checks allow for both.
